- HYPOTHESIS — Predict which liquid will cause the most visible reaction with your solid material. State why, using pH chemistry vocabulary (carbonic acid, hydrogen ions, carbonate).
- METHODS — List all materials (liquids, solids, containers, lids, camera). Describe setup, number of containers, volumes used, observation intervals, and how you photographed changes.
- DATA TABLE — Create a table: rows = liquids (label each), columns = solid material, initial pH (if measured), observation at 24h / 48h / end, qualitative change description, any quantitative change (mass, size). Include your photographs as evidence.
- ANALYSIS — Which liquid caused the most reaction? Which caused the least? Rank your liquids by reactivity. Explain the chemistry (H⁺ + CaCO₃ reaction) connecting your observations to ocean acidification.
- CONCLUSION — (1) Did your results support your hypothesis? (2) Identify two sources of error — are they random or systematic? (3) How does your mini-experiment model what is happening to marine organisms as ocean pH drops?
Turn in / bring: Submit data collection by 9/28, full write-up by 10/5 @ 11:59pm through Canvas.
