- HYPOTHESIS — Based on the exposure pathway model, predict which exposure route (ingestion, inhalation, or dermal) poses the greatest risk for children in a pre-1978 home undergoing renovation. State your reasoning.
- METHODS — Describe the Lab 9 investigation activity from Canvas (source identification, exposure pathway mapping, risk comparison, or Flint case study analysis — whichever Prof. Ring assigned).
- DATA TABLE — Record your investigation findings: source(s) identified, exposure pathways mapped (source → medium → receptor), population at highest risk, and documented health effects at specific blood lead levels.
- ANALYSIS — Apply the dose-response concept: at what blood lead level do health effects appear in children (reference CDC guidance)? Compare the Flint situation to a pre-1978 home renovation scenario. Which population faced greater risk and why?
- CONCLUSION — (1) Was your hypothesis supported? (2) What is one source of uncertainty in environmental health investigations? (3) How does the Flint water crisis illustrate the intersection of environmental health and environmental justice (BIO 1120 Outcome 3)?
